In order to capture realistic detail in his carvings, John will make a mold and
then a casting of an actual fish. Along with photographs, measurements,
and the casting he is able to capture the physical detail in his creations. Many
carvings shown below are from actual fish caught by the artist. All fish are
carved from either Tupelo or Basswood. Habitat such as rocks, grass, sand
and even the worm shown in the mouth of the Montana Brook Trout are all
carved from
wood. All work is signed and numbered by John.
